Veneers and smile makeovers

Porcelain veneers can improve the shape, colour and alignment of your front teeth. A smile makeover may combine veneers with whitening, bonding, crowns or implants, planned around what you want to achieve.

Porcelain veneers

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain coverings bonded to the front of the teeth. They can close gaps, change the shape and colour of teeth and correct mild misalignment. We will talk you through the different types of veneer and help you choose the right option for you.

Types of veneer

Minimal-prep veneers

The most common type. Only a very small amount of tooth surface is removed, about 0.5mm from the front, before a thin porcelain veneer is bonded in place.

No-prep veneers

Bonded without reducing the tooth surface. Mainly used to improve colour and close gaps when teeth are already well aligned.

Feldspathic and e.max veneers

Different porcelains with different strengths and appearance. We will recommend the most suitable material for your teeth.

How long do veneers take?

Usually two to four weeks, even for a full set. We start with a planning session, photographs and impressions, and models that show the planned result. Temporary veneers are fitted while the final veneers are made.

How long do veneers last?

Typically around ten years with good care. Veneers can chip like natural teeth but are less prone to staining. Gums can change naturally over time, and veneers can be replaced if needed.

How many veneers will I need?

It depends on the result you want. Many smile makeovers use around eight veneers on the upper teeth; a smaller change might use four veneers with whitening. If your teeth are very uneven, braces first may give a better result.
