Dental implants

Fixed replacements for one tooth, several teeth or a full arch. Every case is planned digitally from a CT scan before treatment, and most surgery uses keyhole or guided techniques.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are titanium replacement tooth roots, placed gently into the jawbone to support a ceramic crown or bridge. Unlike dentures they do not move, and unlike a conventional bridge they do not rely on the neighbouring teeth for support.

We plan the position of your implants on a 3D model built from a CT scan and an optical scan of your teeth and gums, so the surgery can be carried out precisely and comfortably.

How treatment works

1. Consultation

We listen to what you want, examine your mouth and explain your options and costs.

2. CT scan and planning

A 3D scan lets us plan each implant on a computer model before surgery.

3. Implant placement

Keyhole or guided surgery is used in most cases to make treatment quicker and more comfortable.

4. Healing

The bone bonds to the implant surface, usually over about three months.

5. Your new teeth

Your implant crown or bridge is made and fixed in place.

Treatment usually takes four to six months from start to finish. Some complex cases take longer.

Treatment options

Single-tooth implants

One implant supports a ceramic crown that matches your natural teeth.

Implant bridges

Two or more implants support a bridge to replace several missing teeth.

Full-arch implants

Four to seven implants can support a complete fixed bridge for people with dentures or failing teeth.

Same-day teeth

In suitable cases a temporary bridge is fitted on the day the implants are placed.

Immediate implants

An implant can sometimes be placed at the same appointment as removing the tooth.

Bone grafting

Where bone has been lost, grafting, including sinus grafting, can rebuild it to support implants.

Common questions

How long does implant treatment take?

Usually four to six months from your first consultation to your final teeth. Complex cases, or cases that need bone grafting, can take longer.

Is the treatment painful?

Implants are placed under local anaesthetic. Most patients find the procedure more comfortable than they expected, and guided surgery helps keep it quick.

Can you look after implants placed elsewhere?

Yes. We recommend having your implants checked and maintained every year, wherever they were placed.

Am I suitable for implants?

Most adults with missing teeth can be considered. We assess your bone, gums and general health at your consultation, using a CT scan where needed.
